In Bipartisan Vote, House Passes Vow to Hire Heroes Act

Today, Congress put politics aside and sent their first jobs bill to President Obama for his signature. VOW to Hire Heroes Act easily passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 422-0. We expect the President to sign this bill in to law as soon as possible, so that veterans can get back to work. See IAVA's statement here.IAVA's Statement

“The House has stepped up for new veterans in a big way. In passing the VOW to Hire Heroes Act, they are getting vets to work. This bill contains critical provisions that IAVA has been targeting since launching our Combat to Career program at Storm the Hill earlier this year. And with new veteran unemployment rising, the timing couldn’t be more critical,” said IAVA Founder and Executive Director Paul Rieckhoff. “We applaud the House for fighting through the partisan gridlock that has been plaguing Washington.

IAVA Applauds Passage of Jobs Bill for Veterans in the House

IAVA applauded the House of Representatives today for passing the Veteran Opportunity to Work (VOW) Act (H.R. 2433), introduced by Republican House Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Jeff Miller of Florida. The bill will require programs to assist the transition from military to civilian life, strengthen job protections for deployed service members and help military personnel acquire civilian certifications.

IAVA Hosts Fleet Week Job Fair for Bay Area Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans

IAVA announced its First Annual Fleet Week Smart Job Fair will be held from 12-5 p.m. on October 6 at the War Memorial Green Room in San Francisco. It is the first of five events being held around the country as part of IAVA’s Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) America partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

In observance of 9/11, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the nation’s first and largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization representing veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan, will unite at memorial services and service projects in tribute to 9/11 victims, their families and first-responders. IAVA Founder and Executive Director Paul Rieckhoff, a 9/11 First-Responder, New York native, and Iraq veteran, will represent IAVA’s more than 100,000 members nationwide at Ground Zero.

Hundreds of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans Attend Washington Nationals' Baseball Game

IAVA brought hundreds of Member Veterans and their families to the Washington Nationals game as part of IAVA’s national campaign with Miller High Life to give vets a “Piece of the High Life.” The second year of the campaign has sponsored massive events all summer long in cities ranging from Los Angeles to Raleigh to Baltimore. Over five hundred Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families will attend the Nationals game, with one delivering the line-up card and one throwing out the first pitch.
