Don't Make Our Troops Pay for BP's Mess

BP made a massive mess. And because of a bureaucratic loophole, many National Guard members are paying the price. Nearly 1,500 men and women in uniform have deployed to help clean up the oil spill so far, and thousands more could follow. But while serving their country, they're being shortchanged. For many, the time they're serving won't count towards their educational benefits.

IAVA, Sen. Gillibrand Unveil Memorial Day Cultural Coalition

With families across New York City set to honor America’s veterans and United States Armed Forces this upcoming Memorial Day Weekend, IAVA joined U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) on Monday to announce that a coalition of over 50 museums, historic sites and cultural institutions from all five boroughs will grant free admission throughout the holiday weekend for all active duty service members and veterans in a special tribute to the men and women who have so bravely defended our country.

Fighting 13% Unemployment

Loyalty. Discipline. Respect. Leadership. Those are values that any employer would like to see in new employees - and those are the values that make veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan our country's next greatest generation.Yet the latest unemployment numbers among new veterans point to a stark reality. Last month, a staggering 13% of new veterans were unemployed, compared with 10% of their civilian counterparts.
