While veterans home from Iraq and Afghanistan have the bad luck to be returning to one of the worst job markets in history, a growing number are being helped by corporate programs.  IAVA’s Executive Director and Founder, Paul Rieckhoff, praised the efforts of these programs, and stressed the importance of an educational component for both the employee and the employer.

The Hill: Veterans group gives Congress low marks

On October 19th, IAVA Action Fund Executive Director and Founder Paul Rieckhoff spoke to The Hill about IAVA Action Fund's 2010 Congressional Report Card. IAVA Action Fund’s report card is based on lawmakers’ votes and sponsorship of bills in support of the organization’s legislative priorities, which include disability reform, predictable veterans’ affairs budgets and veterans’ employment and education, as well as eliminating veterans’ homelessness, improving healthcare for female veterans and easing the benefit claims process.

Thank you for inviting IAVA to speak today on behalf of our 180,000 members and supporters.  Veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan are America’s next greatest generation. They should be focused on leading America. But unfortunately, right now, too many are worried about finding a job.  

CNN: Veterans Fight for Care and Benefits

IAVA Executive Director Paul Rieckhoff joined CNN for the recurring feature “Broken Government.” Rieckhoff used the platform to spotlight a number of areas where the Department of Veterans Affairs is not meeting veterans’ needs. At the top of the list is the backlog of nearly one million disability claims in the outdated, paper-based disability claims system. Rieckhoff called for the VA to use more innovation and tap America’s top companies to better serve America’s veterans.
