New York Post: Job Squad

While veterans home from Iraq and Afghanistan have the bad luck to be returning to one of the worst job markets in history, a growing number are being helped by corporate programs.  IAVA’s Executive Director and Founder, Paul Rieckhoff, praised the efforts of these programs, and stressed the importance of an educational component for both the employee and the employer.

On Veterans Day, IAVA Executive Director and Founder Paul Rieckhoff was featured as the 'Greatest Person.'  

AZ Central: Thousands cheer Veterans Day parade in Phoenix

Local IAVA Member Veterans marched along with thousands of other veterans in the Phoenix Veterans Day parade. There were nearly 200,000 spectators at one of the largest parades in the country.  

San Diego Union Tribune: San Diego honors its veterans with downtown parade

Over 50 IAVA Member Veterans marched in the San Diego Veterans Day parade. A San Diego Union Tribune blogger documented the parade, and IAVA's Members' huge presence.

Newsday: Veterans' group ratings on Ackerman, McCarthy slip

A Washington, D.C.-based organization that advocates for Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans has downgraded the ratings of two of Long Island's five members of Congress. Reps. Gary Ackerman and Carolyn McCarthy saw their ratings in the 2010 Congressional Report Card, issued by Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, slip from two years ago. Ackerman (D-Roslyn Heights) got a B rating, down from an A-minus, and McCarthy (D-Mineola), who last time got an A-plus, drew a C.

 

Houston Chronicle: Veterans groups grades Congress on votes for vets

On October 19th, The Houston Chronicle's Armed Sources blog reported on IAVA Action Fund's 2010 Congressional Report Card noting a "very short honor roll this year" of elected officials in Texas who supported veterans' issues. The Chronicle noted Republican Senators John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison both received D grades, down from solid B's last year. In the House of Representatives, the only Texan to earn an A+ was Democrat Al Green, of the 9th District.  

The Hill: Veterans group gives Congress low marks

On October 19th, IAVA Action Fund Executive Director and Founder Paul Rieckhoff spoke to The Hill about IAVA Action Fund's 2010 Congressional Report Card. IAVA Action Fund’s report card is based on lawmakers’ votes and sponsorship of bills in support of the organization’s legislative priorities, which include disability reform, predictable veterans’ affairs budgets and veterans’ employment and education, as well as eliminating veterans’ homelessness, improving healthcare for female veterans and easing the benefit claims process.
